Avery K. Williams
is the co-managing partner and co-founder of Williams Acosta PLLC. Mr. Williams concentrates his
practice in commercial and general business litigation,
environmental law and
litigation, real estate
and eminent domain law. He is the lead counsel for the Detroit Water & Sewerage Department痴 (DWSD)
Industrial Waste Control Division and has been at the forefront of the DWSD痴 efforts to reduce water
pollution in southeast Michigan. Mr. Williams has successfully tried a significant number of major cases
to jury verdict within the past five years.
Mr. Williams is a nationally recognized expert in the area of eminent domain litigation and has authored numerous briefs on the subject. He has represented the City of Detroit, the Detroit/Wayne County Stadium Authority and several large national corporations in various eminent domain-related cases, including the dual Stadia Project and the Waterfront Reclamation and Casino Development Project in Detroit. Mr. Williams is a frequent lecturer and speaker on development, eminent domain, business law and litigation matters.
Mr. Williams is admitted to practice before all Michigan courts, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Mr. Williams was a charter member, former director and past president of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association and a former executive board member and treasurer of the Michigan Black Law Alumni Association. Mr. Williams is currently the President of the Board of Directors of the Water Access Volunteer Effort (WAVE). He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Coalition On Temporary Shelters (COTS). Mr. Williams is also a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the Oakland County Bar Association, and the Wolverine State Bar Association.
Avery Williams graduated from Michigan State University magna cum laude and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan.
