David A. Domzal has extensive experience in the areas of construction, commercial and real estate law, environmental law and solid waste issues, energy law, litigation, and dispute resolution. He has represented clients in a number of complex commercial transactions such as a $500 million multiple credit facility, the siting of solid waste facilities and major real estate development projects.
Notable projects include:
- Represented municipality in negotiation of development agreements for $500 million mixed-use development project in Pontiac, Michigan
- Represented municipality in acquisition and settlement of condemnation claims of key real estate parcels on riverfront in downtown Detroit for redevelopment purposes
- Represented regional transportation system on $90 million acquisition of new fleet vehicles
- Represented developer and assisted in securing brownfield financing for 90-unit residential project in Wyandotte, Michigan.
- Represented client on siting of solid waste disposal facilities in Wayne, Clare and Sanilac Counties in Michigan and Montgomery County, Ohio.
- Negotiated contracts for establishment of Detroit-area regional recycling center and creation of "private/public partnership"
- Negotiated landfill gas to energy projects in Michigan, Ohio, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Georgia including agreements with energy developers and utility companies
A frequent author and speaker, Mr. Domzal's articles on alternative dispute resolution and environmental issues, such as alternative energy sources and solid waste issues, have appeared in numerous newspapers and trade journals including The Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News, Crain's Detroit Business and Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
Mr. Domzal has served as council president and council member for the Village of Beverly Hills, Michigan, co-chair of the Michigan State Bar Association Real Estate Committee of the Environmental Law Section, on the Detroit Advisory Council for Boysville of Michigan, and President of the Board of Directors for Metro Detroit Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Domzal is admitted to practice in State and Federal courts in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio, and he is a member of the Michigan, Ohio and Oakland County Bar Associations.
Mr. Domzal graduated from the University of Michigan College of Engineering and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo Law School. Mr. Domzal is also a registered professional engineer.
