ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE GROUP

Our environmental practice covers the entire range of issues. We provide advice and consultation on air, water and solid and hazardous waste permitting matters. We are well-versed in federal and state laws regulating the discharge of pollutants. We have an active practice involving wetlands (permits, mitigation and litigation). We have significant expertise in "brownfields" redevelopment, where our experience in municipal law, eminent domain, real estate transactions, and environmental law intersect. We are actively involved on behalf of our clients and in our roles as community leaders in participating in legislative, rulemaking, and policy initiatives on matters ranging from traditional environmental regulation to cutting edge issues such as suburban sprawl, "smart-growth," land-use planning, global climate change, and sustainability.

When advice and consultation is not availing or inappropriate, litigation may have to be the chosen course. Our lawyers have years of experience litigating cases involving response costs recovery, civil and criminal sanctions, toxic torts, environmental insurance claims, and enforcement actions brought by state and federal authorities. By virtue of our municipal practice we have significant experience representing clients who have both enforcement responsibilities to their communities (for water, sewer and land use, for example) and environmental regulatory obligations to state and federal authorities.
