Ruben Acosta is the co-managing partner and co-founder of Williams Acosta PLLC. As a business counselor and litigator, Mr. Acosta has counseled and represented clients in a broad array of complex commercial matters and disputes including commercial contracts, securities, real estate, construction, intellectual property, land use, insurance coverage, personal injury and business immigration.

Born in Cuba and fluent in Spanish, Mr. Acosta has represented Latin American companies and citizens involved in transnational commercial disputes in the United States and abroad. As the chairman of the 2006 United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Legislation Conference, Mr. Acosta worked with congressional and White House representatives to help shape policy on comprehensive immigration reform. As a member of the Board of Directors for the USHCC and the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC), Mr. Acosta has worked extensively on the local, state and national level on Hispanic economic issues ranging from immigration reform to business development.

Mr. Acosta has significant trial experience, having successfully prosecuted and defended cases in jury and bench trials and through summary judgment motion practice. Besides traditional trial practice, he has also represented clients in commercial disputes using alternative dispute resolution methods like mediation, arbitration and facilitation. Mr. Acosta has practiced before federal and state trial courts and administrative tribunals, as well as appellate courts, including the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Acosta is an arbitrator with the National Association of Securities Dealers. He is also a commercial mediator with the Wayne County Mediation Tribunal Association, a commercial and complex contract mediator with the Oakland County Circuit Court, and a defense mediator with the Oakland County District Court.

Mr. Acosta is a member of the Detroit Metropolitan and American Bar Associations, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Hispanic Bar Association. He is President of Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (LASED), a charitable organization providing social services to the Hispanic community in Michigan, and also serves on the boards of various other local and national charitable organizations.

Mr. Acosta graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan and is a cum laude graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law.
